The woman with black hair
pinched high into a glossy coil
by a cheap white plastic
banana clip
totters along
in taupe heels
too big for her small brown feet
and too high for her short, bowed brown
unstockinged legs.

In her purple print dress and
red jacket,
embraced on all sides
by the four generations
germinated in her womb
she walks with pride
her unlined face held high.
